Topic: Artistic text effects.
Deadline: March 31, 1999
Create an image that is your interpretation of the topic for the current competition. We strongly suggest making a single entry per round, but we will accept more.
You may use imPRESSion Lite (shareware or licensed version) or imPRESSion (licensed version) only in order to make your images. You must include in a ZIP a specially formatted text file explaining how you made your images and the PDR source files for them.
This is an open competition. It is mandatory that you submit a ZIP archive containing all of the PDR source files for public use. The ZIP file will also include a specially formatted text file explaining how you made your images. The size of the Zip file has to be less than 250 kb.
You can send us your entries by ftp (ftp://ftp.impression.ro/incoming) or email (firstname.lastname@example.org). Please read the copyright which applies to all submissions.
Winners are chosen by the BNW Systems staff. Winners receive free licenses of imPRESSion and iMPRESSion Lite. The competition is not about winning. You do not have to be a professional, or even any good! BNW Systems reserves the right to reject and remove any submission, at any time, for any reason.
2. Acceptable Tools
You may use any hardware. Only imPRESSion Lite (shareware or licensed version) or imPRESSion (licensed version) are acceptable.
You may not use cliparts downloaded from the internet or purchased commercially in order to create your own images. Similarly you may not use bitmaps of any kind within your work. You may not violate copyrights of any sort.
Once you have the files of your submission together, you can send them to BNW Systems via email or ftp.
A submission must contain a PDR file with the .pdr file-name extension (e.g. "foo.pdr"). A submission must contain a specially formatted text file with the .txt file-name extension. (e.g. "foo.txt") A submission must contain a ZIP archive with the .zip file-name extension (e.g. "foo.zip"). You must include the PDR format file and the text file within your ZIP archive file.
All files in a submission must have the same base name. Meaning that the first part of the files you submit (the part before the extension) must all be completely identical. For example: "sunset.pdr, sunset.txt, and sunset.zip".
The base name should be 8 characters or less, and may only contain numbers ("0..9") and letters ("a..z") and underscores ("_"). Case is not preserved. All entries will be made to conform to this standard.
Non-standard characters will be removed from names, all extra characters will be chopped off, and all uppercase characters will be made lowercase. These are ISO-9660 (CD-ROM) naming restrictions. Your entry will be renamed if it conflicts with an already existing entry's name. Submissions must be uploaded by the deadline.
If your submission is acceptable, you will be sent email which states that your submission was accepted. If your submission is unacceptable, you will be sent email describing what was wrong with your submission.
If you make a submission, but do not get email back within 24 hours confirming it, chances are something went wrong and, please, contact BNW Systems. You will not get email (and your submission will not be accepted) if you do not include a properly formatted and valid email address in your text file.
4. Image File
Only PDR format image files are acceptable. The ZIP file must be less than 250 kb in size.
All images must be original. You may not use another person's image with or without their permission. You may not use an image that you created in the past. You may of course re-use good ideas from past images that you have created.

Grant of Limited Reproduction and Distribution Rights
These files may not be distributed for any purpose without my express prior written consent except in the following circumstances:
Entrant grants BNW Systems and his distributors, for free, the right to distribute the submitted PDR files for the purposes of marketing, including demonstration of BNW Systems products.
Entrant grants BNW Systems, for free, the right to include all files in their submission in future distribution package of imPRESSion or imPRESSion Lite. Entrant grants BNW Systems, for free, the right to include all files in their submission on a CD-ROM which will be sold to the general public. Entrant grants BNW Systems the right to use for free any files in their submission to promote this CD-ROM.
Entrant grants BNW Systems the right to use for free any and all files in their submission for promotion of the competition and activities related to the competition. Entrant grants the right to all imPRESSion and imPRESSion Lite to create derivative works from any file in their submission.
This, in plain English, allows this competition to use your files for its purposes, and allows BNW Systems to include your files in future imPRESSion and imPRESSion Lite distribution package and to use your files for producing CD-ROMs. It also allows it to, for instance, use your images on a poster advertising the CD-ROMs. It also permits distributors to use your images to demonstrate imPRESSion and imPRESSion Lite features. By "images" we mean any image that you submit to the competition.
YOU STILL OWN THE FILES! You are not asked to surrender your copyright to BNW Systems or anyone else, you are merely saying that you grant us permission to use your files for these specific purposes.
You are also allowing people that use imPRESSion or imPRESSion Lite to copy the files to their hard drive, look at them and use them in order to create derivative work.
